Description:
Dorothy Wegman, the later Mrs. Samuel Raphaelson. 3/4 length, standing, facing left. Ziegfeld dancing star. Undated photograph by Alfred Cheney Johnston, likely (from the dates of her Ziegfeld engagements) between 1921 and 1928.
From her New York Times obituary: Her naïve reaction to being told a dancer was the mistress of a famous man: ''Were there any more in the show? Maybe? I gained a new interest in each girl, and scrutinized each one closely, looking for the unmistakable signs -- a mink coat and diamonds.'' After Dorothy died in 2005, aged 100, Doris Eaton Travis, the sister of Mary Eaton, is the last living Ziegfeld girl at 104 years.
Taken from the Alfred Cheney Johnston Collection at the U.S. Library of Congress.
